Q Poster Assignment • Points 40 • Submitting a file upload Here is the assignment as stated in the course outline: Poster Session: Students will choose a specific intervention related to individuals with a diagnosis of serious mental illness and create a poster that summarizes the intervention; its goals, targets & desired outcomes; the nature of the evidence supporting the intervention; and what future research needs to focus on to enhance its level of empirical support, or to demonstrate it’s effectiveness. Posters using Power-point will be presented to the class and reprints will be distributed to the class. Students will provide a detailed description of the findings including references. All posters and detailed reports must be completed by the 14th class session. You may use Powerpoint or Google Presentations or any other slide program such as the one found on the MAC. The idea is to choose an intervention that works to help relieve the problems associated with a mental illness. You will need to research evidence that shows an intervention works. An example is exercise as an intervention that helps people overcome symptoms of depression. You would research the effects of the intervention on depression by finding 2 or 3 empirical articles (articles that are empirical studies) and describe what the authors found. You would then summarize your work discussing exercise and depression, the goals of exercise in lowering depression, who it might work best with, the outcomes described in the studies and the need for future research. To make this easier for you I will now put this in outline format. 1. What intervention are you choosing? 2. How can this intervention help people with serious mental illness? 3. What evidence exists (studies) that show that the intervention can help people with serious mental illness? 4. Is there a special group of people that this intervention may work best with such young/older people, men/women, etc.? 5. How can future research show that this intervention is effective? 6. Summary and conclusion. In the conclusion, how can this evidence help social workers in their work with clients who have serious mental illnesses? 7. References. Using APA style, list the studies and any other references you have used for this presentation. In total, you do not need more than 12 -15 slides and you may need fewer. There is no minimum or maximum but realistically you would need at least 6 slides and probably more but not more than 15.
